This is not a tourney marker, and is not a normal rec-ball marker either...
By Brent Hoefling AKA RamboPreacher PoG#6- "A Player, Not A Pro"
A couple years ago, I was fortunate enough to have an approved request to be able to use the PPS "Grinder" prototype in a local scenario game. I never actually finished the review of the scenario, but it was extremely fun! Click here to view those pictures.
In the early 90's I received a PPS catalog that had a picture of that prototype and, of course, was extremely intrigued. Obviously it was absolutely no good for tourney use, or even for recreational paintball, but for some scenarios, I thought that it would be great fun.
I realized very quickly that the firepower of the grinder and the shear volume of paint would be a concern and would require special care when using. I considered getting one with my scenario team, as a group purchase, but I realized that that wouldn't really work since I wouldn't necessarily be able to "control" who got to shoot it. I am not saying that I don't trust my teammates, by no means. The issue is that other people, not on the team might want to "try" it, and there might be a challenge there.
I decided that I would wait and get it on my own, and volunteer to use it in those scenarios and special games at local fields, tourneys, etc.. It took a while and after some budgeting and the fortunate reception of an unexpected bonus at work, I established a formal communication with Glenn Palmer about seriously purchasing a custom RP-Grinder. I'll skip all the details of those conversations, but in the process, I was told I would even be able to get some pictures of it's creation, now and again.
Thus, the creation of this page...
020702 - Received these pictures form PPS today, showing the beginning process (click the picture to view in a larger resolution):
020730 - Received a couple more pictures from Craig - wowzers!
021001 - another picture, and news that the trigger assemblies and gears are being worked on. The main aluminium box has been assembled, and will be anodized, then special LASER engraving, that has already been decided! It's getting exciting to see this come together! Okay, Okay - you all have heard me ranting about the "fad" of center-feed markers and these are obviously CF markers, but what makes these different is that it is one marker, all three "systems" makes up the one marker, and besides, I don't think I'll be holding this up to "cheek" level and "sighting down the top of the barrel" - this is a "shoot from the hip" (or kind of from the chest, as it were, - you'll get a better idea when I get it and include pics of me shooting her.) marker, all the way!
030103 - another picture sent from Craig - woot!
030130 - another picture - getting close now...
030326 - The most recent news I have on the RPGrinder is that it's components are at the platers. The box will have some LASER engraving, and I am getting very excited about using this marker in some scenarios and special games, this year. The news has been getting around that this thing is coming together. Someone sent this picture to me, they had apparently scanned from a November, 1991 issue of Paint Check magazine. Not sure at this point when it went from the "meat grinder" to just grinder, though. Yes, that would be the same one that I had used in a couple scenarios already - the "prototype".
030702 - one year after I received the first pictures, I get to take my own!
030703 - I will be continuing this review with some performance and field tests and pictures later this summer as I am able to attend games and practice shoot. Check back now and again for updates.
