The "Classic" Super Stocker

A short review and pictures of the "Classic" Super Stocker

By Brent Hoefling AKA RamboPreacher PoG#6- "A Player, Not A Pro"

I have been wanting to get a True Stock Class Paintgun for some time now and the Super Stocker seemed to be my natural choice.  However, I have been eyeing a Carter Buzzard for some time now and have only heard rave reviews of them.  After more research, I found that the Carter is a Nelson based paintgun system while the SS is a modified Sheridan based valving.  Since I have owned a few Phantoms in the past, I was already familiar with the system, but was not as satisfied with them as the Sheridan based paintguns I have been using (Palmer paintguns).  This is really a very subjective argument, Nelson vs. Sheridan.  But suffice it to say, I personally prefer the Sheridan based ones.  My decision to purchase the SS was made.

After many emails between myself and Craig Palmer about the SS and options and customizations, I came to the following listed choices:

Status:
990818 - finished up email contacts with Craig and made the order for my CSS.
990914 - email requested status of the CSS
990915 - Received email from Craig: "It is still in the machining phase of the batch"
991011 - Called and talked with Lori, she said that it was probably at the Platers and that Craig would have a better idea of a status, but he won't be back from the "masters" for a couple days.  I'll try back at the end of the week.
991028 - got an email from Craig today and in the middle of talking about the Splat-1 2000 tourney, he mentioned the status of the CSS:  "The CSS is waiting for the feed plugs to get polished and plated. We went through our books and found out that we spent too much money for polishing last year. Enough to employ someone for year just to do polishing :( > So we ended up building a new polishing room hiring someone and buying a machine this week. I should have the polishing room up and running by today hopefully."  A sign of growth if they are employing yet another person!  Woo Hoo, I am excited for them (as a small business owner, myself).
991129 - Received an email from Craig late last week.  He said that they received a batch of jobs from the platers and my CSS should be ready in a week or so.  I'll be calling today to verify shipping.
991201 - Called PPS this morning and talked with Lori, she said that the Gun was almost ready to be shipped, so I went ahead and finished paying for it.  I should now have the CSS is a week or so! - Woohoo!! a Christmas Present for me! - to quote a famous cat (Okay - his name is Stimpus J. Cat) while talking to his pal Ren - "I can hardly contain myself!"
991208 - Received an email from Craig yesterday containing an actual picture of my CSS!  Here it is, the first picture of my Custom-Classic Super Stocker (of course I will be taking, and posting more for this review):

000105 - I sent my Stocker in to Doc for a Custom Stock, and neglected to make sure my pictures turned out - well they didn't, so now I have to wait to get it back for more pictures. - Sorry.

Because of the many Questions I have been receiving regarding Stock Class play and it's rules, I'll try to list Them.  With modern technology, and depending on where you are located, these rules may vary slightly.  Always ask before you assume that you are Stock Class Legal.  I have heard that there are even places that allow Direct Feed paintguns in their SC games too (which actually makes it a modified pump class, but that's another story/gun.)

  1. Must be manually operated, no semi or double action, no modified semi's to allow a "manually pumped 4-way".
  2. Barrel may be any length, but must be smoothbore, and solid - no barrel porting or muzzle brakes.
  3. No more than 20 balls can be in the feed tube and a hopper-feed tube if inserted while playing, you must rock and cock (either forward or backward) - no spring fed feeders.
  4. The feed tube must be parallel with the barrel, no gimmicks to keep a ball on top the bolt for next shot, no direct feed tubes with tube adaptors. The outer circumference of the tube/feed tube, must touch the outer circumference/surface of the barrel (longitudinally)
  5. Powered by a single 12 gram only and you must have a minimum of 1.5 screw turns to release the cartridge and it must fall or come out through those threads (no quick changers, or side release gimmicks.
  6. No check valving, the gun must de-gas completely when a cartridge is released, inactivating the gun completely.
  7. No auto-trigger, or other trigger gimmicks

Conclusion:
I finally was able to actually use this in a game.  That game happened to be Top Gun in Splat-1 2000.  It performed as flawlessly as I had expected. Very smooth pump action and only a slight tilt necessary to rock/cock to load a ball.  The Classic Super Stocker is one sweet SC paint-gun.
